What is a period? What is menstruation?

Periods (menstruation is the fancy medical term) is when all the tissue in your uterus that builds up each month comes out. It’s regulated by your hormones. Certain hormones are supposed to get higher and then lower over the course of your cycle and that’s what effects the timing your period.
